Huh? Gourmet Dining at The Reef? It's True! We've been going to Rocky Point for 25 years. When we were young, we'd drive onto Sandy Beach, and camp wherever we got stuck in the sand. If we wanted a cheap beer and a burger, we'd walk over to the The Reef, the light-blue building that has been a fixture on the beach on the Sandy Beach side of Cholla. When we heard that there was now gourmet dining at The Reef, we said "huh?" Finally, we checked it out. And it's true. The old bleach-blue Reef is still there, still serving loud music and cheap beer. But now, right next to it (on the side closer to Cholla, so you can't see it from the Sandy Beach resorts) is a gorgeous two-story restaurant and piano bar that overlooks the water. The service is friendly and fast. And the food - omigosh, we never thought we'd eat such a sophisticated, elegantly prepared meal in Rocky Point. It's not cheap, but for what you get it's worth it. If you need to pull a romantic spot out of your back pocket, this is the place. The only downside is that The Reef is right next door, and the trailer park is on the other side. Definitely won't deter us from going back, though. Try it out - we'd love it if this place was real successful so someone else will come along and try to top it! Right now, for fine dining in Rocky Point, The Reef is king!

Fine Dining at Sandy Beach We found the reef almost by accident; I didn't want to drive into Puerto-Penasco itself one evening and I took a quick drive down towards the end of Sandy Beach to see what was available. The Reef is in a brand new (by the look of it) building with fantastic seating areas, both inside and out. The decor is very chic and the staff is friendly and speak exceptional English.
I ordered the Duck and my wife had a chicken fajita. The duck was perfect, tender and flavorful. The presentation was outstanding as well. My wife said that the fajita was likewise excellent.
The other advantage to the Reef is that it has a good, low cost childrens menu, almost unheard of at other Puerto-Penasco restaurants.
The prices were quite reasonable and they accept credit cards.
Overall an outstanding choice.

WOW! I am well travelled, and rarely am I extremely impressed by a restaurant. Loved, loved, loved the Reef. Beautiful plating, wonderful flavors, excellent service and great ambiance. You MUST go to the Reef at the beginning of your vacation so you have time to return a second time.

Incredible!!! The Reef is by far the BEST restaurant in Rocky Point. The presentation of everything on the menu, from appetizers to dessert is a work of art. Their dinner specials are my favorite and are always something unique. I didn't think it was as expensive as US fine dining. Not a very kid friendly place due to the exotic presentations, sauces, etc, but they do have a kids menu for the younger ones. I can't wait to return! Two more weeks!

How dissapointing After reading the hype on here, I am dissapointed, the food, the prices and service were very poor.
Would not return there ever again.

The Best The Reef has the best dinner and atmosphere in all of Rocky point. Been there and done that and I always go back to the Reef for a great dinner experience.

Attention Beatles Fans We met up with friends in Rocky Point who, knowing I am a true fan of the music of the Beatles, took us to The Reef, where they have a wonderful piano player who plays Beatles music. I had the best shrimp ever (!) prepared by the chef, whom we were told is the former chef to the Pope of Mexico. The shrimp was not only a culinary masterpiece but a work of art as well. This combined with the beautiful piano playing and a nice view made it one of the best places we have eaten in years of going to the area. I definately recommend The Reef for the best shrimp and great atmosphere. (Just don\'t order a hamburger). Diamond in the Rough It is unfortunate this restaurant is so far away from everything else in Puerto Penasco. It is right next door to a trashy campground, but don\'t be fooled...this restaurant is anything but trashy. The service is fabulous, the food both wonderful and presented beautifully, and the setting is gorgeous. Don\'t miss out on this restaurant during your trip to Rocky Point.
